New veterinary programmes announced for multiple sites, including Kildalton Agricultural College

Great news for the South East region with the announcement of a new veterinary medicine programme to be established at the South East Technological University campus in Kildalton Agricultural College in Piltown, Co. Kilkenny.

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has been working to establish new veterinary colleges to address the huge shortage of qualified vets for farm animals and pets and the very high demand for existing veterinary courses. A second veterinary school will be established at Atlantic Technological University campuses in Donegal and Galway and between them these new veterinary colleges will double the number of veterinary graduates each year. It means that fewer Irish students will need to travel abroad to qualify and it may also ease CAO points for veterinary science, which are among the highest in the country.

“The VCI welcomes this decision as it will bring clarity and certainty to the veterinary medicine sector,” said Niamh Muldoon, CEO and Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
