Transformed Kilkenny Park Shortlisted for Eco Award

Kilkenny Countryside Park, located in Dunmore, has been named a finalist for the 2025 LAMA Awards in the category of “Best Environmental/Ecological Project Initiative.” This recognition comes just over a year after the park’s grand opening in late 2023.

The park, situated on the site of a former municipal landfill just 5km north of Kilkenny City Centre, spans 24 acres and offers a rich natural environment for visitors. It features three themed activity trails, two ball walls, a bespoke viewing area, play and exercise equipment, and unique relaxing spaces with hammocks and loungers. Notably, it is also home to Kilkenny’s first dedicated dog-friendly enclosure.

Managed sustainably without the use of chemicals, the park supports a diverse range of habitats, from wildflower meadows to mature hedgerows, making it a haven for biodiversity.

The All Ireland Community and Council Awards, now in their 19th year, will be held in Cork in 2025. These awards celebrate the collaborative efforts of communities and councils, highlighting the significant contributions made by unsung heroes across Ireland.

Kilkenny Countryside Park stands as a testament to environmental transformation, turning a former landfill into a beautiful and accessible public space. With its array of attractions, including the Mass Path Trail, Accessibility Trail, and Biodiversity Trail, the park offers something for everyone, making it a cherished local amenity.

The park’s nomination for the LAMA Awards is a proud moment for Kilkenny, showcasing the community’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation.
